Any Brockton Haitian stylists in here, what side gigs actually helped you grow salon clients (not just make a few extra bucks)? I own a small spot in Brockton and I’m thinking about doing like bridal trials at home, pop-up braids at local events, maybe even teaching quick “wash day” classes, but I don’t wanna spread myself too thin lol. What’s worked for you, especially around summer/fall when everybody’s booked up, ki sa nou konseye? Also do y’all find Instagram collabs with MUAs worth it or is it mostly just likes and no bookings?
Bridal trials and “wash day” classes are actually smart because they turn into repeat bookings, not just one-off cash. If you can, partner with 1-2 local photographers/MUA folks in Brockton and be their go-to for shoots and weddings, referrals stack fast. Pop-up braids at events work too but I’d treat it like marketing: collect numbers, book next appointments on the spot, hand out a simple referral deal. Also consider doing a monthly “client appreciation” mini day with limited slots so it feels exclusive, people love that. I’m in Atlanta real estate so different lane, but same idea: side gigs that build a list + relationships beat random gigs every time tbh.
Pop-up nan event yo bon tou, men fè l tankou “mini konsiltasyon + foto avan/apre” pou moun santi yo deja konekte avè w, pa sèlman yon braids rapid. Si w ka fè yon patenarya ak fotogwaf, MUA, oubyen boutik rad/mariage, sa konn frape fò paske kliyan yo deja nan mindset pou yo depanse. Epi pa neglije Google/IG, menm 10 bon revi nan zòn nan ka chanje jwèt la.
Bridal trials + wash day classes are the move if the goal is clients, not just quick cash. One thing I’ve seen work (I own a store in NY) is making the side gig feed a simple list: QR code to book, collect numbers/emails, then text a “next appointment” offer 10 to 14 days later. Pop-up braids at events are fine but only if you lock in rebooks on the spot, like “event rate today, same rate if you book within 48hrs” type deal. Also partner up with 1 photographer/MUA and treat it like a referral pipeline, not random favors, consistency wins. Little referral card system PBuilds mentioned is boring but it prints money lol
