    I am putting together a small music unit for my students and want Haitian songs that can help with culture, rhythm, and simple classroom discussion. I am looking for Kompa, Rabòday, Zouk, or even crossover tracks that are clean and easy to use in a school setting. What songs would you recommend that feel meaningful, not just catchy?

    For class, I would lean toward songs with clear hooks and clean audio so students can catch the words. A good mix could be one Kompa track, one Zouk track, and one modern crossover song to show how Haitian music connects with other styles.     Not a teacher, but I think songs with strong drums and a simple chorus work best because people remember them fast. If you want students engaged, pick something they can clap along to and ask what instruments they hear. Haitian music has that energy where even a short clip can start a good conversation.

    I would add one song that makes students move a little, because that always gets the room awake. A Kompa beat or a clean Afrobeats crossover could be perfect for that. You could even ask them to compare the vibe to music they already know in Boston or back home.
